PORT HARCOURT—Rivers State branch of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, has blamed the increasing cases of kidney failure in the country on the activities of unauthorised herbal medicine practitioners and peddlers of fake drugs.
Publicity Secretary of the body, Mrs. Ijeoma Okey-Ewurum, after the election of a new executive for the union in Port Harcourt, said PSN would partner the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, to go after the offenders.
She said: “There are fake and expired drugs everywhere, especially with widespread presence of traditional herbal medicine practitioner, claiming professionalism even when we are aware that most of them serve poison as drugs.”
She said the practice accepted in the society today had contributed to the death of many, including those with issues of kidney failure.
