Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has stepped up his recovery from a muscle problem in the Real Madrid gym after two days of rest.
The 30-year-old sustained the injury during the Spanish champions’ 3-2 defeat at Galatasaray in their second leg match of the quarter final tie in the Champions League
The on-loan Chelsea player sat out last weekend’s 3-0 win at Athletic Bilbao as he was still in the initial process of his recovery.
Essien however returned to the Real Madrid gym on Wednesday after being given a two-day rest by the club’s doctors.
Saturday’s La Liga game against Real Betis might however prove too soon for the Ghana international.
He is however expected to be fit to travel with the side to Germany for Wednesday’s crunch Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund.
Manager Jose Mourinho is hoping to have his reliable midfielder available for the game at Dortmund to fill in at right-back for the suspended Alvaro Arbeloa.
