Ellembelle MP presents 500 wheel chairs to PWDs

Aiyinasi (W/R), April 18, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has donated 500 wheel chairs and crutches worth 15,000 dollars to the Ghana Federation of the Disabled in the Ellembelle District.

The donation was made possible through a collaboration programme between Always Praising the Father and JONI & FRIENDS two non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the United States.

About 170 persons with disabilities (PWDs) benefited from the donation last year dubbed:”Ellembelle MP’s Free Wheel Chair Charity Clinic.”

The theme for this year’s programme is: “Lending a Helping hand To the Needy.”

Making the presentation on behalf of the MP at Aiyinasi, Programme Coordinator of the Clinic, Reverend Dr Peace Donkor said the project was initiated in 2009.

He lauded the efforts of the two NGOs for partnering the programme.

Rev Donkor lauded Adamus Mining Resources for partly sponsoring the programme.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, the organisers of the programme, Rev Allen and Pasty Fulton asked the government, the church and civil society organisations to factor PWDs into all development activities.

Deputy Western Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Mr Kwaku Agyemang Dua thanked the MP and the NGOs for the humanitarian gesture.

He asked PWDs to take advantage of the two per cent of the District’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund to establish dignified means of livelihoods for themselves and stop begging.

The District Coordinating Director, Mr Joseph K. Armah said physically challenged persons are not mentally and spiritually disabled.

He said it is the moral and legal obligation of Ghanaians to assist PWDs and under privileged in the society.

Receiving the items, the District Coordinator of the Ghana Federation for the Disabled, Mr George Mozu thanked the MP and the NGOs and the District Assembly for their support towards the well-being of members.
