Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Kojo Adu-Asare has predicted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may not pursue its challenge of the 2012 presidential election results given the performance of its key witness, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He said the NPP’s key witness’ demeanor in court is an attestation that he [Bawumia] is still having a relapse from the near fatal accident he had at Bole in the Northern region few weeks ago.

Dr. Bawumia was crossed examined for hours by the Lead Counsel for the President on day three of the substantive hearing of the Election Petition before the Supreme Court.

Lawyer Tony Lithur accused Dr. Bawumia of trying to mislead the court by using duplicated pink sheets in his analysis.

He argued that the petitioners deliberately used different exhibit numbers of the pink sheets to deceive the court and to inflate the figures.

But Dr. Bawumia vehemently disagreed to the assertions, explaining that they had moved from manual to electronic numbering of the pink sheets to avoid errors.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Kojo Adu-Asare said Lawyer Tony Lithur has proven the NPP’s case is an exercise in futility.

According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo and the two other petitioners are wasting the court’s time for their own selfish interests.

The Former Adentan MP urged the NPP to brace itself for more exposé on their diabolic plans to distract the Mahama-led administration.

The NDC man said Dr. Bawumia looked confused, tired and distracted in the witness box which impeded his ability to answer adequately the questions posed to him by lawyer Tony Lithur.

He said the “uninspiring” performance of Dr. Bawumia in the witness box after being grilled by lawyer Tony Lithur has ‘killed’ the vim many NPP members had in the party’s ability to win the court case.

Adu-Asare was of the conviction that the petitioners’ key witness has not fully recovered from the unfortunate accident he had.

“If this continues for three days, he [Dr. Bawumia] might break down. Why will you [NPP]push him to the fore while the first and third petitioners are around; one of them a very a astute lawyer Ghana has ever produced” he quizzed.

The former Adenta MP could not fathom why Nana Akufo-Addo was not made the key witness but rather Dr. Bawumia whom he says is “inexperienced” when it comes to electoral matters.

He claimed the NPP wants to make Dr.Bawumia a laughing stock be making him a key witness in a case that is dead at birth.

“I am so sad because I can see a talent and a very strong personality who can be anybody in this country being push to the slaughter” he bemoaned.

He posited that Dr. Bawumia’s association with the NPP is driving his political career into a state of extinction.

Adu-Asare said the NPP may throw-in the towel if Dr. Bawumia does not up his game in court.
