On the heels of the brouhaha surrounding Jay-Z and wife, Beyonce’s recent visit to Cuba, Haitian Hollywood star, Jimmy Jean-Louis has visited the Caribbean state for the screening of the award-winning biopic about the Haitian revolution, “Toussaint Louverture”, in Havana.
Amongst the 800 guests at the screening were the Cuban Minister of Culture, the French Ambassador, the Haitian Ambassador and many dignitaries. The event was organized by Rigoberto Lopez from The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC)
Jimmy who wouldn’t comment on Beyonce and Jay-Z’s visit to Cuba ,when I asked, had many wonderful things to say about the country.
He said, “Havana is a very beautiful and old city, most parts of the city look like movie sets. Beautiful cars from the 50′s are used as taxis. I have not seen one homeless person in the streets. “
“Havana is very rich in culture; I should also say that the only beach I visited reminded me that I was in the Caribbean. “
