VGMA Nominees Jam: Destination Koftown

If you’re looking for an out of town weekend getaway, with the splendor of terrific live outdoor Ghanaian music performances, then the Eastern Regional capital Koforidua is the place to be this weekend.

Come Saturday 20th April 2013 the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Festival train will make a stop for the first time since its inception, at the Koforidua Jackson Park for the 2013 VGMA Nominees Jam!

The Eastern Regional capital Koforidua is a pleasant traditional town with agreeable hotels and a busy market. The weekend promises the delightful experience of the beautiful nature of the Koforidua areas mixed with the VGMA fervor.

Koforidua City (New Juabeng) is made up of several towns and neighborhoods, including Effiduase, Asokore, Oyoko, Suhyen, Dansuagya, Betom, Srodae, etc. A predominant natural feature in Koforidua is the ‘Obuo Tabri’ Mountain, which is considered sacred. Nearby is Akosombo Dam which holds Lake Volta, the world’s largest man-made lake. Waterfalls in the area such as Akaa Falls and Boti Falls and the Umbrella Rock attract tourists to the area and make for a great family getaway. More reason to be in Koforidua this weekend!

In addition to experiencing a beautiful tour of the area, being at the Saturday night event with some of Ghana’s top musicians will make the Koforidua experience all the more exciting. Nominated artistes at this year’s VGMAs slated to give riveting performances at the Koforidua Jackson Park on said night include 9-time nominees R2Bees, 2-time VGMA artistes of the year winners VIP, Kwaw Kese, EL, Keche, Eazzy, and Bisa & C Waddle. Others are Cwesi Oteng, Cynthia McCauley and Dr Slim and hosted by talented comedian and aspiring musician, Funny Face.

The Jam will be preceded on Wednesday 17 April 2013 by night club activities hosting some of the nominees. The ….. club will be stormed by music lovers and  patrons alike to fraternize with some of Ghana’s leading music celebrities with some performances, photograph sessions, autographs and partying in anticipation of the jam slated for the 20th April. The first VGMA club party is a great way to de-stress away from the bustle of the capital for weekend holiday makers in this serene city- Koforidua.
