Nsukka — President Goodluck Jonathan and the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Abubakar have been asked to, as a matter of necessity, hasten action to immortalise the slain Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Chinweike Asadu.
Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council, Chief Tony Ugwu, made the call while speaking in an interview with Vanguard after Asadu’s burial at his Onuiyi Nsukka country home, weekend.
Ugwu said the late Asadu was killed less than two months to his retirement, having served the country meritoriously for over 30 years in several capacities.
’’As a matter of necessity, honour and respect for Asadu for his service to his fatherland, he should be immortalised by naming a police barracks or police headquarters or any police training college after him,” he said.
’’The encomiums poured on late police commissioner during his burial ceremony are not enough for a man who died in the course of serving the country.
“Apart from immortalising him, the Police Service Commission should promote him posthumously. At least the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, who represented the IGP, Mohammed Abubakar confirmed that Asadu was his course mate. The least the government can do is to promote him to DIG because of his services to humanity,’’ he said.
Furthermore, Ugwu called on the Kwara State government to name one of its establishments after Asadu who served last in the state.
The chairman disclosed that the legislative arm of his council held a special session for the slain CP Asadu where they called on the IGP, Mohammed Abubakar to name the Nsukka Police Barracks after late Chinweike Asadu.
He however, thanked the Nigeria Police family as well as Enugu, Anambra and Kwara States governments for their support during Asadu’s burial.
