The 4Kids channel on MultiTV on Saturday, April 13 organized an award ceremony to climax its educative program, 4Kids Essay Competition, held on Independence Day, March 6.

The event, attended by participants of the competition and their families, was held at Zenith University College, La, Accra to present prizes to the winning students after a weeklong audition process.

Out of over 1,000 entries submitted, 80 qualified to move to the next stage to begin the three-day audition process with the judges.

On day one, 40 essays were dropped to give way to the best 40, after which 20 were dropped on day two and then 10 on day three. During the three days, students were interviewed to determine their ability to read well and also write the essays they submitted.

Graded under two categories, Juniors (7-11 years) and Seniors (12-15 years), the top 10 winners from the two categories combined received prizes ranging from a RLG laptops, MultiTV digibox, books from EPP Books Services, watches, diaries and 4Kids branded T-shirts.

Winning schools included Christ the King International School, Ridge Church School, Cosmos Basic School, Crown Prince Academy, Queens International School, Rising Sun Montessori and Osagyefo Leadership International School.

Aisha Rex Sumani of Ridge Church School emerged tops in the Junior category while Maureen Kyere of Christ the King was crowned winner in the Senior category.

Maureen Kyere told Myjoyonline.com that she was glad to have won the ultimate prize after her second attempt and that although she loves writing; she was heartbroken when she did not win last year.

This year’s question for the Seniors was “How the youth can be motivated to contribute massively to national development”.

“I am a youth so I thought [about] what can I do to bring about development in my country Ghana and so I took a paper and pen and I wrote down a few points…I asked my friends for some help to know what they would do if they wanted to contribute to national development,” Maureen revealed her secret to winning the competition.

“It was my dream and I have finally achieved it,” an elated Maureen added.

Aisha Rex Sumani on the other hand said, “I like writing and this is my first time of writing the Multi-Tv 4kids Easy competition” and she was first time lucky.

She said she took part in the competition because she “wanted to think…that is why I participated.”

Her essay was on the question: “What role can young people play in the development of Ghana?”

According to Aisha, “the role I can play is taking my education seriously so I can contribute to the development of the nation. I wrote on education, discipline, peace, good sanitation and good health.”

She advised her friends and Ghanaian kids “To keep watching Muti-TV 4Kids and also they should participate in the station’s competition. If they do not win, they should try again.”

In addition to the amazing prizes, the top 10 winners have been given a unique opportunity to fly with the 4Kids team on a free trip to the Garden City, Kumasi, to visit the Manhyia Palace and take a tour of Luv FM on April 20, 2013.

All students between ages 7 and 15 are encouraged to participate in the next edition of the Essay Competition to be held in July, 2013.
