Ghana U17 coach Paa Kwesi Fabin has backed himself to elicit a response from his side following their 6-1 thrashing by Nigeria.

The Black Starlets were left stunned on Sunday as they were embarrassingly annihilated as they opened their Group B campaign at the Africa Junior Championship in Morocco.

Ghana will now face Congo in their second group match on Wednesday as they seek to revive their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the competition.

A place in the last four will also secure Ghana’s place at the U17 World Cup to be played in the UAE later this year.

Fabin is aware that only a victory against Congo will placate Ghanaians after the shocking embarrassment in Marrakech.

“We have to regroup and try to salvage our campaign to reach semi-finals but now we can only look ahead to one game at a time,” Fabin said after Sunday night’s defeat to Nigeria.

“Our focus shift to the next game against Congo and not the one beyond that and little by little we see if we can recover from today’s set back.”

Ghana will play Ivory Coast in their last group game before they know whether they have qualified for the semi-finals.
