Ghanaian youth defender Daniel Pappoe led the Chelsea U21 side to manage a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in the English Reserves League at the Villa Park on Monday.

The 19-year-old towering center-back skippered the side at the heart of the defence alongside Dion Conroy and he marshalled the backline with command.

Alfie Crooks had given the home side the lead midway through the first half when he pounced on a Jamal Blackman punch to fire into an empty net but a second-half penalty from Milan Lalkovic saw the Blues earn a deserved point against an in-form Aston Villa side at Villa Park.

Pappoe, born in Lapaz – Accra, joined Chelsea’s U12 side and has been developing through the ranks at Cobham.

He was an important member of the 2010 FA Youth Cup-winning squad though he missed the Youth Cup Final through injury.
