The Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) has revealed that the suspect arrested in connection with the cocaine impounded at the Takoradi Port had been on their watch list for several months.

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in the Western Region impounded a container with parcels of substances confirmed to be cocaine at the Takoradi Port.

The container was documented to be carrying used shoes and sandals from Panama in Central America.

The Executive Secretary of NACOB, Yaw Akrasi Sarpong explained that it was obvious the container which was being shipped to Ghana had some contraband goods in them.

“It was such an obvious thing. The impunity with which this thing was coming and like I said, he [suspect] is not really in our center; he is on the periphery. But he is one of the guys we have been watching for some time.”

He added that the suspect (name withheld) had a warehouse in an obscure place out of town “so we’ve been watching him quite a bit.”

The NACOB boss also mentioned that his outfit had dispatched a combined team to Takoradi to test the substance.
