Tragedy occurred in the early hours of yesterday when a Toyota Hiace bus plunged into Majidun River, along Mile 12- Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

Sunday Vanguard learnt that the three occupants  of the vehicle were yet to be recovered at press time.

According to a  senior officer of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, who confirmed the report and craved anonymity, the accident happened at about 6 a.m., which made immediate rescue operation impossible.

An eyewitness account said the vehicle was on high speed before the fatal plunge into the river, as the driver was apparently oblivious of the dangerous bend around the area, coupled withe road expansion project along the axis.

The bus, with Lagos registration number KSF 918 AU, was recovered around 10.05 a.m. by a combined team of LASTMA officials and local divers.

The bus  was said to belong to a Lagos club.

The state Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa, who also confirmed the accident, urged motorists to exercise patience and be cautious on the road.

A similar accident happened on the road early this year, when a bus plunged into a river but the lone occupant escaped death.
