Andre Ayew says that he could leave Marseille at the end of the season, if one of his reported suitors stumps up enough cash.
The French media has reported that Barcelona and Manchester United, amongst other clubs, have been keeping tabs on Ayew, who is the son of Ghanaian icon Abedi Pele.
Marseille plan to redevelop the Stade Velodrome into one of the best football venues in Europe, and need every spare cent to finance the process.
They are looking to reduce their wage bill, and at an estimated €350,000 a month Ayew is one of their biggest expenses.
Consequently, the 23-year-old forward says that Marseille have made it clear that he is free to find a new club, if the price is right.
Ayew has been the object of criticism in the French media this season, but he blames his erratic performances on a chronic knee condition.
But as a midfielder he has scored 10 goals for Marseille this season, and provided five assists – a good return – although he is currently without a goal in his last eight league matches.
Last season he scored 16 goals, so he may have his work cut out to better that total, but his goal threat from out wide is certainly an asset which would be useful to United.
Ayew could replace is Ashley Young, on Manchester United’s left-flank, who has been as poor as anybody this season, after an inconsistent first.
Young has not scored a single goal all season for Manchester United, and it would not be a surprise if the club move him on this summer; Andre Ayew would surely be an upgrade in the position.
But you would find it difficult to see which player Ayew could replace in the Barcelona set-up with Xavi, Iniesta or Busquets.
Do you agree agree that Andre Ayew is not good enough for Barcelona or Manchester United? If yes why and if no why? Make you views known in the box below:
