Armed robbers attack Nkasiem residents, one person dead



Nkasiem (B/A), April 12, GNA – A group of armed robbers on Wednesday stormed Nkasiem, a farming community, noted for illegal mining activities in the Asunafo North Municipality of Brong-Ahafo Region and terrorized residents.

Residents in the area still live in extreme fear following the attack which left one person dead.

An Eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Nkasiem on Friday that the robbers shot and killed a small scale miner in the area only known as Elder, at close range after robbing him of millions of Ghana cedis.

The incident, the eyewitness explained happened around 0600hours behind the Nkasiem main police station.

When the robbery was going on, the police station was locked up and sporadic shootings by the gunmen who came with an unregistered saloon car raised pubic alarm.

The eyewitness pointed out that residents who were along the shoulders of the main road were ordered by the robbers to lie on the ground before they bolted amidst gun shots.

A police officer at the station who confirmed the story to the GNA on condition of anonymity said investigation was ongoing whilst the body of the deceased had since been deposited at the St. Mary’s hospital at Hwidiem for autopsy.
