UN Joint Committee on Human Security urged to harmonize activities

Wa, April 12, GNA – Dr. Avea Ephraim Nsoh, Upper West Regional Minister, has appealed to the UN Joint Committee on Human

Security Programme, to harmonize activities of all UN Agencies, so that they could have a greater impact on society.

He said cited that the Programme would have a great impact on the Upper East, Northern and Upper West regions if the harmony is achieved.

Dr. Nsoh made the appeal when officials from the UN Joint Committee on Human Security Programme paid a courtesy call on him in Wa.

He said nine out of every ten people in the Upper West Region are said to be poor, which according to him was unacceptable in terms of human security.

Dr. Elias T. Ayuk, United Nations University, Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA), mentioned job creation, food and nutritional security as well as human security as areas that needed intervention.

He said activities such as conflict sensitive reporting, provision of water, incentives for Security Agencies, provision of improved certified seeds and resource support for women to generate their own income to support their families were undertaken last year under the programme.

Dr. Ayuk said local policy dialogue on peace building was also organised to sensitise people on peace building mechanism and processes.

Mr. Mike Oliver Ahiati, Principal Economics Officer and Head of Turkey, India, Israel and Kuwait Unit of External Resources Mobilization and Bilateral Division at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, said the Ministries of Finance and Local Government and Rural Development, were in full support of activities under the programme.
