Accra, April 12, GNA – The Non-Aligned Students Alliance (NASA) on Thursday questioned the motive behind the intended demonstration by some members of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) over the UTAG strike.
NUGS has declared its intention to embark on demonstration on Friday April 12 over UTAG and government antagonism.
In a statement signed by Nana Charles Adusei, NASA National President and copied to Ghana News Agency, described the intended demonstration as miscalculated, reactionary, mischievous, unnecessary and vexatious.
It said the National Labour Commission ruled that government was liable to pay the allowance and went ahead to enforce the proposal of government that the 2012 allowance arrears be paid in three equal instalments.
‘Sadly, we are told UTAG has flatly rejected the directive by the NLC- an action we believe constitutes lawlessness at the expense of the ordinary students and should rather be the concern of NUGS,’ the statement said.
It therefore called on NUGS to redirect its focus on UTAG to respect the ruling by the NLC and return to the classroom.
The statement is therefore advising students not to take part in the intended demonstration by NUGS as UTAG is flouting the laws of the country.
