A group, Mass Mobilization for Transformation, MMT, has tasked the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur to step down from office upon what it described as the increasing divisiveness traced to his leadership.
The group in an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan alleged that the Tukur leadership in over one year has failed to bring the party together, alleging that his actions could pose a challenge to the president’s chances in the 2015 election.
The group in the letter issued by its national coordinator, Comrade Joseph Ambakederimo and made available to Vanguard, noted that where the national chairman has failed in bringing the party together, Chief Tony Anenih, the chairman of the Board of Trustees has progressed in winning the trust of disenchanted governors in the party.
While calling on President Jonathan to do away with Tukur, the group said: “If he cannot broker peace and hold the party together then commonsense dictates that he should quit. We ask again, of what value is the Tukur led NWC when after one year in office it cannot solve the problems that the Chief Tony Anenih led BoT is now addressing just within weeks of its existence.”
