Police arrest suspected kidnapper in Okitipupa

Okitipupa (Ondo State) –  The police in Okitipupa, Ondo State, have arrested a  suspect linked to the  attempted kidnap of  one Mrs Olubunmi Akinbuwa on Tuesday night at  about 11:00 p.m.

The Okitipupa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Titilola Lasisi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the victim had escaped from the suspected abductors and reported at the police station.

Lasisi  said he immediately dispatched  a patrol team to comb the scene  of the incident in search of the kidnappers.

“ The intended victim was with us during the patrol and she  identified the red Carina 2 saloon car with registration number  EDO AG 88 ABD where it was parked on  Halubi Street at around 12:15 a.m,” he said.

Lasisi explained that the car was  driven into a ditch  when the suspected kidnappers attempted  to kidnap  Akinbuwa.

The DPO said  a man, who was spotted beside the car, was arrested while  one English made pump-action rifle was recovered inside the car.

Lasisi  said  the suspect had been handed over to policemen attached to the State CID in Akure for  further investigations.

Also speaking to NAN, Akinbuwa said she was on her way home after the close of work at a filling station when the abductors attempted to block her path on Apata Street in the metropolis.

“ We were about 200 metres away from my residence when the car, which had been trailing us, overtook mine just as my driver slowed down to avoid a pot-hole.

“ They parked in front of my car and  a man alighted from it.

“ He  rushed to the driver’s side, but when I spotted the pistol in his hand, I opened the door and ran for my dear life,” she said.

She further explained that the suspects’ car ran into the ditch when attempting to chase her. (NAN)
