EX-GHANA STAR Reverend Osei Kofi has laid the blame for Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s exit from the Africa Champions League right at the doorstep of the players of the club.
He insisted the Kotoko players failed to shine on the day, which resulted in the club bowing out of Africa in front of home crowd.
Kotoko were knocked out of the Africa Champions League after drawing 1-1 with visiting JSM Bejaia of Algeria in Kumasi, last Sunday.
The Algerians advanced to the next stage on the away-goal rule after holding Kotoko to a 0-0 scoreline in the first leg.
After the game, connoisseurs of the game and Kotoko fans pointed accusing fingers at especially Coach Didi Dramani for Kotoko’s exit.
But Osei Kofi, who in his heydays played for Kotoko, said Coach Dramani could not be blamed for the team’s failure on the day.
Without mincing words, he said Kotoko were out of the competition because the players of the club failed to deliver.
As a technical man, he pointed out, ‘I will give credit to the coach if his team is able to create decent chances in a game as Kotoko did. But if the players fail to convert those decent chances then the players should be blamed and not the coach.
