NDC Chairman Impregnates 22-Yr-Old Niece

An NDC chairman at Bomso in the Effiduase Asokore Constituency of the Ashanti Region is in the firm grips of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Asokore Police, after allegedly impregnating his 22 year old niece, with whom he was staying.

The controversy over the six month old pregnancy of Akua Ampomaa, daughter of the NDC chairman’s sister, came to an end last Thursday, when the girl mentioned her uncle, Mr. Kwadwo Kyerematen alias Alaye Bobo, 55, as being responsible for the pregnancy.

Akua Ampomaa told a meeting, called by the Asokore Traditional Council last week Thursday to settle the matter in which the NDC chairman had been accused of having canal knowledge with her, that her uncle had been making advances at her eve since her mother, Abena Ntem, asked her to come and stay at Bomso, some four years ago.

The girl told chiefs and elders of the community that her uncle always lured her into his room, in the absence of her mother, and had sex with her, and warned her not to inform the mother, or she would be sent back to the village.

Akua’s ordeal continued until a few months ago, when her mother, Abena Ntem, detected an abnormality in her physical appearance, and inquired what was wrong with her.

After eventually convincing herself that her 22 year old daughter was pregnant, Abena Ntem persistently inquired from Akua the person responsible for the pregnancy, but her daughter would not disclose the name.

After unsuccessful attempts, Abena Ntem summoned her daughter before the chiefs and elders of the community to ascertain the real identity of the person responsible for the pregnancy.

It was during the meeting that Akua mentioned her uncle, Kyerematen, as being responsible, much to the chagrin of the chiefs and elders.

Like the old Akan saying that it is only the woman who knows the father of her baby, the accused NDC chairman could not exonerate himself, and was made to slaughter one white sheep and produce two schnapps for the sacrilegious act.

He was subsequently handed over to the Asokore Police DOVVSU, who took his statement and detained him for some hours before his release.

The Effiduase police told a local reporter of Kessben FM that they were still investigating the case, and would make the chairman face the full rigours of the law.
