Ghana defender Awal Mohammed will begin light on Wednesday after recovering from a hamstring injury, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 25-year-old pulled out of Maritzburg United’s 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs last Wednesday after feeling a tweak in his thigh.

The suspected thigh injury was later diagnosed to be a hamstring injury with the doctors ordering the touring Ghana defender to rest for ten days.

The ex Asante Kotoko center half has however been given the all clear to begin light training with his team after a doctor review session on Tuesday.

He is however unlikely to be match fit to make a full return to help Maritzburg when they face Super Sports United in the South African top flight on Saturday.

News of Mohammed’s recovery progress also serves a massive boost for Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah who is looking to have all of his players fit and ready to play when the 2014 World Cup qualifiers resumes in June.
