The Boxing Promotions of Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan have confirmed April 26 for the international bout between Ghana’s Emmanuel Tagoe and Ronald Pontillas from the Philippines.
The bout will be the first fight for the young Ghanaian World title hopeful since beating local rival George Ashie to win the WBA International Lightweight title.
An elaborate program for the fight that will be staged at the Lebanon House was launched at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
Chief Executive Officer of the Baba Jet Promotions, Samuel Anim-Addo promised to sell out another exciting fight as part of their coordinated plan in getting a World title out of the ‘Game Boy’.
“Just like we did last year November in the fight between Tagoe and George Ashie, the Baba Jet Promotions intend producing another exciting fight which will hopefully pool another impressive crowd,” he said.
Fighter Emmanuel Tagoe also promised to entertain the crowd while making mince meat of his Filipino opponent on April 26.
“My fans know what I am capable of so I will urge them to come in their numbers and come early so they don’t miss out on the fun,” he said.
“I want to thank first of all the Baby Jet Promotions for the confidence and opportunity given me to show what I can do.
“I promise them and all Ghanaians that I will do what it takes to ensure I make them happy by winning a World title.”
President of the Ghana Boxing Authority Peter Zwenes who took delivery of a symbolic title at the launch lauded the efforts being made by the Baby Jet Promotions.
“We are very grateful for the promoters of this fight, last year they promoted arguably the best bout in the history of Ghana boxing.”
“We have been crying for some time now for such professional boxing promotions, and thankfully the Baby Jet Promotions has come along.
“This and other efforts being made by other individuals and groups will help to restore Ghana’s pride in the world of boxing.”
