Airtel Ghana has once again been recognized with two awards for its Corporate Social Responsibility interventions.

The awards, Public Relations Campaign of the Year and Best Community Relations Programme of the Year was handed to Airtel at the First Public Relations Excellence Awards organized by the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana (IPR) at a ceremony in Accra over the weekend.

The first award is in recognition of Airtel’s comprehensive and widely acclaimed public relations effort before, during and after the company went to the rescue of the Odumase Krobo Presby School in Odumase after a student journalist, a native of the town and brought the plight of the school to the public’s attention.

The second award is for Airtel Ghana’s biggest social intervention programme, Touching Lives, which has already received several awards in recognition of its massive impact on a wide section of the Ghanaian society.

Accepting the awards, the Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Philip Sowah, said the ‘community’ is central to Airtel’s philosophy of empowering people – our employees, our customers and communities and therefore winning two awards that celebrate our values is positive feedback that will empower us to do more.

Enriching the communities are not one off activities, but a journey we are committed to undertake for the benefit of the communities in which we operate.

He was grateful to IPR for recognizing Airtel Ghana in such a significant way during its maiden Public Relations Excellence Awards and thanked all for believing in the Airtel brand. ‘These awards are for you,’ he added.
