Activist condemns killing of 12 policemen in Bayelsa

Yenagoa—Immediate past Secretary of Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO, in Bayelsa State, Mr. Alagoa Morris, has described Friday’s killing of 12 policemen on the Azuzuama waterways in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state as barbaric and criminal.

Morris, in Yenagoa, said the killing of the policemen was most unfortunate and urged the authorities to bring to book perpetrators of the heinous act.

He said: “No matter the reasons adduced for this recent attack and killing of the policemen, it remains unacceptable.

“Whether the victims were men on uniform or not, all Nigerians ought to enjoy their fundamental rights to life and anyone who denies another of this right ought to be made to face the law.

“The authorities should go after the killers, get them arrested and prosecute them in a court of competent jurisdiction.”

He, however, noted that effort should be made to avoid the 1999 mistake by the military in Odi.

He said: “The whole community should not be criminalised and invaded. The alleged criminals should be identified and arrested, no matter how long it will take to get at them.

“Proper investigations and professional information gathering should be applied.”
