Chief Inspector Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) who disclosed this to DAILY GUIDE in an interview mentioned the names of the police personnel as Lance Corporal Sacketey Narh Koley, Constable Kweku Assah, Jeritia Evarest, Patrick Nimaful and Richard Baah.
According to the PRO, on April 7, 2013, at about 9:30pm, the suspects, together with their civilian friend, whose name was only given as Richard and now on the run, went to the residence of the Chinese national, Daiming Sheng, at Low Cost, a community in Tarkwa.
Chief Inspector Adiku indicated that when the suspects arrived at the residence of Mr. Sheng, the Chinese national was playing some games with his family and then the suspects allegedly questioned the Chinese man why they were playing the games at that time and demanded GH¢10,000 from Mr. Sheng.
The Chinese national, according to the PRO, could not get the money for the suspects but managed to give them GH¢2,000. Unknown to the policemen, the CCTV camera fixed in the Chinese man’s residence, captured the suspects.
Mr. Sheng then reported the case to the law enforcement agency and the five police personnel were arrested while their civilian friend, who was said to have engineered the whole operation, managed to run away.
Chief Inspector Adiku pointed out that the five police personnel would be sent to court to be remanded pending further investigations while efforts are being made to arrest the civilian friend of the five suspects.
