Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan played no part in Al Ain’s 2-1 defeat to Al Rayann in the Asian Champions League game played on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old did not even make the Al Ain bench despite travelling with the side to Qatar for the crucial game.

Gyan has been out for the past two weeks with a thigh injury he picked up while on international duty with the Black Stars.

The former Sunderland player sustained the injury in the lead up to the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan which Ghana eventually won by a convincing 4-0 scoreline.

The reigning goal king of the UAE Pro League was deemed not fit enough to play any part in Tuesday’s game at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium despite making remarkable progress in his recovery.

He is now likely to make a return to first team action at the weekend when Cosmin Olariou takes his team to face Al Ittihad Kaiba in the UAE top flight.
