Chief Of Late President Mills’ Hometown Rubbishes Killer Story

The head of the Odomna Family of Ekumfi Otuam, who also happens to be the Chief of Ekumfi Henakuma, Nana Ogya Boafo VII has rubbished media reports making rounds that family members of the late former President John Evans Atta Mills believe their kinsman died under controversial circumstances.

The Daily Guide and Daily Searchlight were first to report in their April 9, 2013 editions that the Chief and some family members of the late President suspect foul play at the hands of some yet to be identified people over his death and have called on the sixty-two gods of Ekumfi to strike down and kill anybody who had a hand in his death, failing a full confession.

Chief of the late President Mills’ hometown, in an interview with Oman FM, said the gods had revealed to them that Mills did not die naturally and that somebody hurried him along the path to heaven.

But in an interesting twist, Nana Ogya Boafo VII did a quick volte-face when she refuted the story on Okay FM in an interview with Kwame Nkrumah ‘Tikese’, host of the station’s “Ade Akye Abia” Morning Show.

Whiles acknowledging having granted an interview to an unnamed journalist, she stressed that her comments were deliberately twisted by the newspapers to make her sentiments look like she had cursed the alleged “killers of ex-president Mills”.

According to her, she only spoke to a journalist (who happens to be a family member) at Oman FM and informed him about a scandal that had rocked her shine.

“I had a chat with a family member of mine at Oman FM via phone and informed him that someone had stolen my gods. I told my gods to ruthlessly deal with the unidentified thieves and make sure they are brought to justice.”

“I plead with all Ghanaians to reject the news of foul play in President Mills’ death. I don’t want to court any controversy…I hate lies and I haven’t invoked the gods to kill anybody concerning his (Mills’) death. God knows why he (Mills) passed on and only God knows the person who killed him”, she said.

She felt perturbed by the fact that her investigation to fish out those who stole her gods, has developed into a story about the death of the late former president.

“I heard people saying that I have gone to take bribe and intentional kept mute over the death of President Mills. It is never true and known of our family members have gone to take bribe because of the death of our uncle”, she said.
