Katawere Has No Regret For Abandoning His Tailoring Career For Acting

Controversial Local Twi actor Katawere, born Ebenezer Donkor of ‘Efiewura’ fame has disputed claims that acting is a poor business and that actors do not benefit from their chosen career.

Katawere, who is one of the few local Twi actors who always put smiles on every sad face with his appearances in movies, has featured in so many movies with seasoned stars like Agya Koo, Akrobeto, Kyeiwaah, Ice Kenkey and a host of others.

He told Asempa Fm in an interview that gone were those days when some actors and actresses suffered financial constrains and died poorly after retirement. According to him, acting is a not a poor profession but very lucrative, and that he has benefited and continues to benefit from it.

Katawere said even though he was not a multimillionaire, “I love acting and will be happy if any one takes up my acting character after my death.”

Katawere is one of Ghana’s favourite actors who people, especially children, like to see and listen to. He disclosed that actors are often paid instantly as soon as they accept their scripts, stressing that there was no way any serious actor would go poor after pension.

Most of his movies are characterized by comedy and a large number of Ghanaians, home and abroad, prefer to watch him to offload their stress.

His magnificent interpretations of roles in movies are so flamboyant that fans are always ready to spend money on his movies.

Katawere who claimed he enjoyed sitting back and watching his movies whenever he was idle encouraged those who have the desire to go into acting to keep focused and work extra hard because it pays, adding that he has not regretted abandoning his tailoring job for acting.
