Meet Kwasi Ernest Ennin

Ernest Kwasi Ennin joined the Ghana Music Industry over two decades ago as one of the best gospel music producers in the country.

Ernest who is the chief executive officer of Media Excel Productions, a music production firm, has so many albums under its label.

Media Excel Productions attaches a lot of importance to developing Ghanaian gospel artistes and enhancing their image on the international music market.

It has, over the years, been involved in the development of Ghanaian music and artiste management and currently manages over 10 high profile musicians and eight up and coming ones.

Ernest Kwasi Ennin, in an exclusive interview with BEATWAVES in Accra disclosed that his outfit has established a vibrant global distribution network which, according to him, would ensure that the works of the artistes on his label got to the market place.

“MY outfit’s goal is to promote creativity and talent in Gospel music and also employ the resources at our disposal to improve the Ghanaian music industry as a whole,” he told BEATWAVES.

Over the years, Mr. Ennin and his Media Excel Productions have undertaken various projects and events. Some of the events are Bernice Offei’s seminar for corporate women, Bernice Offei @ 30 musical concert are launch of DSP Kofi Sarpong’s musical career.

They have also produced and developed a radio and TV commercial for Tropo Farms (Advertising Agency) for tilapia production, marketing and distribution. The musical albums of Georgia Agyei, Lizzy Okrah and Princess Ivy were produced by them as well as a commercial about the life time musical works of Professor J.H. Kwabena Nketia.

Ernest is the brain behind the production of Professor J.H. Kwabena Nketia at 90 musical concert and Akosua Adjepong at 20 musical concert. They also organised a fund raising concert for YAFCA Ministries.

He was the brain behind Ghana @ 50 gospel show and President Barrack Obama’s welcome concert at the Du Boise Centre.

Briefing BEATWAVES on his distribution network, Ernest disclosed that distribution is one of his mainstay activities and over the years he has initiated partnerships with other distributors in 14 African countries who handle works of his artistes and other Ghanaian musicians, adding “our goal is to become one of the top professional events/marketing companies in Ghana and in Africa and also to provide already made market for artistes and musicians in Ghana and Africa.

Based on his achievements in the gospel music industry in Ghana, Ernest last year won the Best Record Label/Executive Producer of the year 2011 at the Gospel Industry Music Awards. His outfit also won Song Writer of the Year/Gospel Song of the Year in the 2009 Ghana Music Awards, Gospel Song of the Year, 2010 Ghana Music Awards among others.

Ernest who hails from Breman Asikuma in the Central Region was born in Accra to Charles William Ennin and Margaret Arhinful on June 22, 1971.

He holds O’ Level Certificate and Diploma in Music Management. He is a music producer, song writer, artiste manager, set designer, event planner and a music consultant by profession.

Kwasi Ennin has worked both in Europe and Africa and is heavily respected in the area of event organizing and planning. He speaks English, Ga, Fante, Hausa and Ewe and has tremendous experience in music production and technical direction.

He is married to Ida Ennin with two children; Samuel Kofi Ennin and Charlotte Ewurakua Ennin. Kwasi Ennin and his Media Excel company have been the brain behind the success of many gospel musicians in Ghana, such as Stella Seal, Georgia Adjei, Azigiza Junior, Piesie Esther, Gifty Osei, Cecilia Marfo, Lizzy Okrah, Princess Ivy, Joe Dee Owusu, Supt Kofi Sarpong, Wind Afrique Band, Tongues Of Fire, Bernice Offei and many other great talent in Ghana and abroad.

The ever cheerful Kwesi Ennin has really brought a change in the gospel music business with active campaign for musicians to adopt contracts for all their musical dealings, to be at equal payment levels with the secular musicians and to be signed as corporate ambassadors and brands.

His campaign today has challenged two corporate organizations to organize special awards for the gospel music industry with a standard to match Charterhouse for the slot given to gospel musicians during the Music Awards.

Currently he is working as the technical director for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to build a financial credit module from Midland Financial Services to be accessed by musicians for the production of their works.

He is also the copyright manager for Mobile Content Ghana Ltd for the creation of special download service with huge financial returns to musicians in Ghana.

He has also been three times on the Ghana Music Awards selection committee for the collation of the various categories.

He is also an academy voting member of the Ghana industry gospel music awards. He is also a judge on the reality TV event, Soul Search, organized by Global Media Alliance.

AS part of his efforts to promote Ghanaian gospel music on the continent and beyond, Ernest would be travelling to 10 African countries to negotiate for marketing and distribution avenues for Ghanaian musical works as a starting line for creation of available market for Ghanaian musicians.
