Albert Adomah’s goal was not enough to save Bristol City from a 3-1 loss at Burnley on Saturday.
The Ghana international scored in the 35th minute to give The Reds’ chances of survival in the English championships a momentary boost.
Their efforts were however undone in the second half as Jason Shackell pulled the hosts level in the 52nd minute before Chris McCann and Martin Paterson put the icing on the cake in the 61st and injury time respectively.
The defeat has dealt City a major blow in their quest to escape the drop with just five games remaining.
Sean O’Driscoll’s side now appear certain to get relegated as they lie bottom of the Championships eight points adrift safety.
Ghana forward Albert Adomah is most likely to leave Ashton Gate once the club gets relegated with interests coming from several English Premiership clubs.
