MP donates desks to 100 schools in Agona West

Agona Swedru, April 4, GNA – Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, Member of Parliament for Agona West, on Wednesday presented 4000 dual desks to 100 private and public schools in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region.

Mr Obeng-Inkoom said the donation was to support the schools’ infrastructure development to enhance teaching and learning.

He said the desks were financed by the GETFund through his initiative but did not disclose the cost of the desks.

Each school received between 30 and 50 desks depending on the population.

The MP said providing education for children should be a collective responsibility of government, parents and stakeholders in education.

He said through his efforts 3000 mono desks were presented to 95 private and public schools in the municipality about three months ago.

Mr Obeng-Inkoom said government, under President John Dramani Mahama, was committed to investing more in education because it was key to reducing poverty.

‘It is in this respect that the government, in the 2013 National Budget, allocated 25 percent to education alone,’ he said.

Mr Obeng-Inkoom said his office and the Agona West Assembly would continue to work hard to ensure that all educational institutions in the municipality received the needed support.

Mrs Comfort Ocran, Head of Administration of Swedru Happy Home Preparatory School, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the MP and the Agona West Assembly for the gesture.

She expressed the hope that the desks would help improve educational standards in the municipality.
