Ghana@50 Toilet Facility Abandoned At Abesim

A public toilet constructed sometime 2006, as part of the Ghana@50 Projects initiated during the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the country at Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality, has been abandoned for reasons unknown to the public.

When contacted for an explanation, the Municipal Chief Executive for Sunyani, Kwasi Oppong Ababio, disclosed that there were no documents at the Assembly covering the project, and for that matter it could not continue work on the facility.

However, residents of Abesim have appealed to the Member of Parliament for the Sunyani East Constituency, Mr. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, to facilitate the completion of the abandoned toilet facility put up during the New Patriotic Party administration in the area.

According to the residents, persistent appeals have been made to the Sunyani Municipal Assembly for the completion of the facility, but all to no avail.

They made the appeal at Abesim, indicating that constructions work on the 12-seater water closet facility started somewhere in 2006, but had since then been abandoned.

The residents noted with concern that the facility, located at the local Methodist Primary School, had become a den for criminals, as wee smokers and peddlers undertake their unscrupulous activities, while it also serves as a hideout for societal miscreants.

The insincerity of the matter, the residents noted, was that there was no public toilet in the area, and they had to walk a distance every morning to queue before they could attend to nature’s call.
