Deputy Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has described as ”flawed” a report by London-based research group Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU).
The EIU in a recent report has said, the Supreme Court is likely to uphold the 2012 Presidential result, given what it described as the lack of evidence of systematic malpractice by the petitioners challenging the credibility of the elections.
Three leading members of the NPP including the 2012 presidential candidate of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo and two others have petitioned the Supreme Court challenging the results of the 2012 presidential elections.
According to Mr. Buabeng Asamoah the research group does not have the facts and evidence that will be presented by the petitioners in court and can therefore not conclude on what the outcome could be.
Speaking to Citi News, he revealed that the London-based research group Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) might be feeding on prejudiced reportage by its correspondent.
“They claim they have seen the evidence but I doubt if they have so how they could have come up with that claim is up to them. They are supposed to be an objective organization based on facts and analysis,” he stated.
Mr. Buabeng Asamoah further stated, “Their view of Ghana is written and delivered to them by journalists in Ghana therefore I can say the objective analysis are from journalists in Ghana. Those journalists who write for them may be against the case and therefore may present to them a prejudiced view of the situation in the country. I am afraid the basis for their analysis may be flawed particularly since they are presuming what the court will do on the assumption that the evidence is worthless.”
“They haven’t seen the evidence. Nobody in the court has seen the evidence and the journalist writing for them has not seen the evidence so if they are depending on the physical appearance of a good election, then they are mistaken because we have had such appearances for several years and recommendations from foreign observer missions and otherwise says go so far to the extent that you go deeper into what actually happened and peel off the layers of this elections like an onion; the longer you peel, the more pungent it becomes,” he added.
