Kumasi, April 5, GNA – Mr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD), has called on Department of Community Development (DCD) to renew its sense of purpose and adopt effective strategies to make itself relevant in the fast changing societal environment.
The Ghanaian society, he said, was rapidly changing and that it was important for the management to work hard to enhance the visibility of the Department.
Mr Oppong-Fosu was addressing a three-day review meeting and workshop for key staff of the Department in Kumasi on Thursday.
Its scope, he noted, was wide and varied and said it was up to the management to device strategies on how to participate in all the various interventions being implemented by the Government to achieve the Better Ghana agenda.
The Minister said as experts in community development, it was incumbent on them to be seen participating actively in various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the people.
He added that they should help shape the destiny of the youth, the vulnerable and excluded.
Mr Oppong-Fosu asked them to strengthen the capacities of the people through advocacy training and promotion of social inclusion.
He pledged his readiness to support them to play their expected role in society.
Mr Theodore Tandoh, Acting Director of the Department, asked for more resources and logistics to be given to DCD to discharge its duties effectively towards improving the lives of rural people. GNA
