67-year-old retired educationist re-elected PM for Sissala West District Assembly




Gwollu, (U/W), April 4, GNA – Mr W. W. Tengviel, a 67-year-old retired Educationist, has been re-elected as Presiding Member of the Sissala West District Assembly.

Mr Tengviel, a sole candidate, polled 26 votes out of 28 assembly members who took part in the election that was supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The election, which took place during the first ordinary meeting of the assembly at Gwollu, was witnessed by heads of departments and traditional rulers including the Paramount Chief of Gowllu Traditional Area, Kuoro Kuri Limann Buktie.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Tengviel thanked the assembly members for reposing their confidence in him for a second time and promised to work on his shortfalls in order to improve on his performance.

The retired educationist, however, called for unity and support from assembly members to enable them to achieve their collective objectives for the development of the district.

Mr Moses Dramani Luri, Sissala West District Chief Executive (DCE), commended the assembly members for the show of unity and appealed to them to sustain that unity for the good of the assembly.

Mr Luri, in his address, touched on the performance of the assembly in the following key areas namely education, health, agriculture, security, water and sanitation as well as revenue mobilization.

In the area of education, the DCE said the district library complex had been completed and handed over for use while nine other projects, including teachers’ quarters, office and residential accommodation and rehabilitation of classroom blocks, were also executed with grants received by the assembly for passing FOAT assessment.

On health, Mr Luri said two doctors were currently manning the Gwollu Health Facility which operated in the past without a doctor and were under the motivation of the assembly to make their stay in the district a memorable.

He said feeder roads were also being improved across the district to facilitate the free movement of goods and services adding that the rural electrification project was also on course.

He appealed to assembly members to educate their community members to wire their rooms while they await connection to the grid.

Mr Luri said the assembly had constructed office and residential accommodation for the Ghana National Fires Service and the Ghana Ambulance Service in the district to enhance their work.
