Accra, April 1, GNA – The Rotary Club of Accra Spintex has marked this year’s Easter celebration with a donation of items worth GHÈ¼15,000 to inmates of the Borstal Correctional Institute in Accra on Monday.
The items include 1, 200 books Mathematics and English books, three bags of rice, four gallons of cooking oil, 16 students mattress, five boxes of detergents, cartons of tin tomatoes and toilet rolls.
Presenting the items, Mrs Mildred Sika Tettey, President of the Club, said the donation was part of the Club’s community activities to support the less privileged in society.
She said the donation of the books was in fulfillment of the Club’s promise to assist Angel Zoe Foundation with its Library Project at the Institute.
She said the donation was aimed at showing love and care to inmates of the Institute.
‘There is more blessing in giving than receiving so reaching out to these less privileged boys during this Easter festive season is something special for the club’, Mrs Tettey said.
She advised the inmates to be truthful and be serious with whatever they are taught at Institute to enable contribute their quota to society.
Receiving the items, ASP Joseph Kaguah, Officer in charge of Education at the Institute, thanked the Club for their kind gesture and called on other public spirited individuals or organisations to emulate the good example.
He said the donation was the biggest this year and had come at the right time since the Institute was in need of books for inmates who are about to write the final examination.
He said the Institute was currently going through some challenges including the lack of adequate water reservoir, lack of adequate materials for many workshops, sporting grounds and lack of books as well as well equipped offices.
He appealed to government to increase its support to the Institute to enable it perform it intended purpose.
