Ex-Nigeria star Taribo West has angrily rubbished claims by former President of Partizan Belgrade Zarko Zercevic that the defender was an age cheat.
Zercevic accused the ex-Derby County, Plymouth and Inter Milan defender West of massively lying about his age, prompting an angry reaction from the Nigerian.
Taribo, who is a now a Christian preacherman, joined Partizan Belgrade in 2002 after leaving Derby County at the age of 28.
The ex-president of Partizan opened a can of worms claiming the defender was actually 40 when they signed him which means the Nigerian reduced 12 years from his age.
“He joined us saying he was 28. We only later found out he was 40, but he was still playing well so I don’t regret having him on the team,” Zecevic said.
But the Nigerian defender has angrily rejected the claims insisting the claim by the two clubs are absolutely ‘rubbish’.
“That’s nonsense. It’s not relevant. It’s absolute rubbish,” Taribo said.
“It does not make any sense.
“If I was 40 in 2002, then I would be clocking what age now? He is not a serious man and I haven’t seen anything important in what he is saying.
“After I left the club, I still played for seven or so more years at the top level. I don’t know how that is possible if I was indeed 40 then as he claimed.”
A report in the Croatian media also claimed that the former defender known for his colourful hairstyles also lied when trying to join Croatia’s Rijeka club revealing that an examination on his knees by doctors showed that he was older.
