Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Northern Region are fuming over reports that Electoral Commission’s (EC) officials arrested for tempering with pink sheets in Savelugu have been set free.
The Deputy Northern Regional Director of the EC, Godfrey Okeley, the Savelugu-Nanton District Electoral Officer, Akumant Benjamin Akanda and Salamatu Osman, a purported National Service personnel were arrested by angry supporters of the NPP last February for secretly signing some pink sheets.
Speaking to Citi News, the Northern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Dr. Clifford Braimah said the party is disappointed in the Attorney-General.
“We are disappointed because the Electoral Commission started doing what they did after they had responded to the petition…and also after they had asked the petitioners to furnish them with further and better particulars…what is more criminal is that they were tampering with the evidence.”
He insisted that “the Attorney General cannot say there was no basis for the arrest and so we are very disappointed.”
