The Ashanti Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are locked up in a crucial meeting over protests by some NDC supporters in Kumasi.
Some youth of the NDC on Tuesday locked up the party’s offices and held Regional Executives hostage blaming them for the appointment of the former Managing Director of GOIL.
The protest was against the nomination of the former Managing Director of GOIL, Kojo Bonsu as Mayor of Kumasi.
According to Citi FM’s reporter Hawa Iddrisu, a visit to the Ashanti Regional branch at Asafo showed that most of the offices had been locked because the regional executives were in a crucial meeting.
Meanwhile in an interaction with some of the people in Kumasi, they indicated that their expectations were high with regards to what the Mayor would do for Kumasi.
“If he can do the work, let us allow him to do the work” a concerned citizen said.
Others were of the view that the appointment of the Mayor should not be politicized.
“This is not about politics, it’s about the efficiency of the person and so if the government thinks the person can work and work efficiently, he should be given the nod to work for us” he said.
