Egypt U20 team were met by thousands at the airport on Monday

Egypt’s U20 team received a hero’s welcome upon their return as African champions from Algeria.

The Junior Pharaohs won with their fourth African Youth championship title against Ghana last Saturday at Ahmed Zabana Stadium.

Egypt won the tournament through the lottery of penalties as they downed the Black Satellites 5-4 after the game ended 1-1 in regulation and extra time.

The team arrived in Cairo on Monday to rapturous cheers from thousands who had gathered at the airport.

Egyptian Minister of Sports Al Amry Farouk and Egyptian FA President Gamal Allam were at the airport to receive the victorious delegation.

Farouk said: “I am proud of the team , they make the people in Egypt happy and we will support them at the World Cup in Turkey next summer.”

Egypt FA president Gamal Allam also added: “This year is very hard for Egyptian football and these young players have made us very happy and proud we thank the entire team with the their head coach Rabie Yassin.”
