Minna— The Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Dahiru Awaisu has said that he would not be intimidated by Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State to vacate his seat for him in 2015, hinting that he would seek re-election into the Senate.
The PDP Senator who spoke to newsmen in Minna also vowed that no political machinations by Governor Aliyu would stop him from seeking the mandate of his people for the third time.
“In spite of the political machinations to stop me, nothing will deter me from contesting for re-election in 2015. I cannot be intimidated by anybody after being in politics for 32 years. There is nothing that I have not seen.
“I have been in politics for long and for that, I cannot be intimidated by anybody not only in Niger but in this country,” he said.
Awaisu further noted that he had won most of his elective seats as representative of the opposition parties in the state, adding that he would not be deterred by anybody to drop his ambition.
“My people back my move to seek re-election for a third term. I will seek re-election under the PDP, even though Gov. Babangida Aliyu, has shown interest in the seat,” he stressed.
Commenting on the chilly relationship between him and Governor Aliyu, the Senator made it emphatic that: “it is not possible for anybody to intimidate me now because I cannot be intimidated but I am ready to make peace.”
On his achievements as a Senator, he said he had helped to secure job placements for no fewer than 125 youths from his area in the federal service, apart attracting several boreholes; building schools and health facilities for communities in his district.
Awaisu, however, noted that some of the projects he attracted were funded by MDGs, while he ”personally paid for the execution of others to bring succour to my people,” and commended the electorate in his constituency for their support and understanding even as he urged them not to relent, promising to always ensure quality representation in the Senate.
