Ghana midfielder Michael Essien says he will return to English side Chelsea after his loan deal with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season.
The midfield powerhouse joined the Spanish side on loan in August last year because of the lack of playing time at the Blues.
With just some few months before the season ends in Europe speculation over Essien’s future is mounting with the Ghanaian being linked with a permanent stay at Los Blancos.
Just last week a Spanish newspaper reported that Essien is among six players to be offloaded by Real even though the player has excelled in his time at the club.
Others also claim that Jose Mourinho will launch a bid to sign the Ghanaian permanently if he is to stay to coach the Spanish giants.
But the Ghana international says he is preparing to go back to Chelsea in the summer and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
“I have a contract at Chelsea and at present I am only on loan here [at Real Madrid], so nothing has changed,” Essien told The Sport Review implying he will return to his mother club at the end of the season.
Essien moved to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window of last year, teaming up with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
The 30-year-old has made 26 appearances for Real Madrid this term, scoring one goal.
