Ghana midfielder Quincy Owusu-Abeyie is hoping his fortunes at Panathinaikos with the appointment of new coach Giannis Vonortas.

Owusu-Abeyie had a frosty relationship with Argentine trainer Fabriciano Gonzalez who was relieved of his duties immediately after Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to Platanias.

This result in the 11 appearances made by the spacy winger who is on loan from Qatari side Al Sadd.

Gonzalez was in his third month as coach of Panathinaikos after replacing Juan Ramos Rocha who resigned.

Rocha had been contracted in November to replace Portuguese Jesualdo Ferreira who was sacked.

Vonortas, until his new job, was assistant coach of the second team.

Panathinaikos are currently sixth on the league table, three points behind the fifth place team.
