AWKA — A governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Mr. Charles Udogaranya, has called on political parties in the country not to subject their sitting president or governors to party primaries, arguing that it was an unnecessary waste of resources.
In a statement in Awka, the aspirant argued that the essence of party primary was to determine the popularity of candidates seeking nomination among card-carrying members.
He added that the president and governors already had advantage over others and should, therefore, be allowed to contest the election without facing the party primaries.
“It is near insurmountable for any other candidate in the party to become more popular among party members, than a sitting president or governor, he said.
“To, therefore, ask other aspirants to go into primary election with their party leader (president or governor) is a sheer hypocrisy, wastage of funds, vexation of party builders and capable of causing disunity in a political party.
