Zak Ansah’s hopes of winning a medal in the Nextgen Series competition this season were dashed after Portuguese Sporting Lisbon hammered Arsenal 3-1 in the bronze medal game to finish third.
The Gunners missed out a final date with fellow English Aston Villa after falling 4-3 to Chelsea after extra-time in Italy last week.
Ansah who came off the bench to set up one of the consolation for Terry Burton’s side was handed a starting place and he lasted the entire duration of the game as the Portuguese side rubbished them 3-1 in Como, Italy.
Thomas Eisfeld shot Arsenal into the lead in the 28th minute after a nice combination with Ansah and Maitland-Niles.
However, their quest to end their European adventures on a high was dented when Lisbon came from behind to win the tie 3-1.
Zak Ansah has a Ghanaian parentage but he is already capped by England youth level.
He signed a long-term professional contract with Arsenal 2011.
