Ghana U20 Trio Named In 2013 African Youth Championship Best Xi

Three Ghana players have been named in the 2013 African Youth Championship Best XI team after Saturday’s final in Algeria.

But in total, Ghana had five players in the 19-man squad released by the tournament’s Technical Study Group.

Black Satellites captain Lawrence Lartey has selected as one of the defenders alongside  Ahmed Samir of Egypt, Mali’s Boubacar Diarra and Egypt captain Ramy Rabia.

The surprise inclusion is midfielder Derrick Mensah who featured in only two matches including starting the semi-final match against Mali.

Striker Ebenezer Assifuah, the tournament’s second joint top scorer with three goals, also made the cut.

Goalkeeper  Eric Antwi Ofori and striker Francis Narh were named among the substitutes.

Egypt beat Ghana 5-4 on penalties to win the trophy after both tied 1-1 after extra-times at the Ahmed Zabana Stadium in Oran.
