The Upper West Regional director of the National Youth Authority, Abdul Moomin Suleiman has observed that the only way the unemployment gap in the country can be reduced is for students of the various universities in the country to work assiduously to create jobs for themselves.
He stated that the unemployment gap is widening due to the over dependence of university graduates on non-existent white color jobs.
Mr. Suleiman made the statement at the inauguration of the Education Students Association of the Wa Campus of the University in Wa.
The association had eight executive members led by Haruna Mahama Fuseini and they will steer affairs for the next one year.
Mr. Suleiman therefore challenged students of the university, particularly the development education students to work to employ themselves and not depend on government.
”We are in a new generation, a generation where people should be able to initiate plans of their own; be very proactive and make a better a change.
Let whatever you do have a positive and direct effect on the people around you so that in your absence they will feel the impact,” he stressed.
The director of Child Support Ghana, Eric Cooman who was the Guest Speaker underscored the importance of education, saying education gives jobs thereby reducing poverty.
He encouraged the students to take their studies seriously so that they will come out successfully and be role models in the society.
The Founding President of the Association, Haruna Mahama Fuseini said the association, like any other, went through lots of challenges before it came in to fruition, adding, its success or otherwise rests on the shoulders of the members.
Mr. Haruna on behalf of colleague executives thanked the members for the confidence repose in him and promised that he will not let them down.
