Amadu Yakubu, a product of the Tafo Golf Club Youth Development Programme and a beneficiary of the club president’s educational support scheme for the less endowed, scored his first triumph carding, an impressive eight under par 64net to claim the 2012 President’s Putter at an impressive tournament held at the club’s cozy course at the CRIG, Akim-Tafo.

The annual 18-hole event sponsored by the indefatigable president of the club, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, CEO of UT Holdings, also recorded another emerging star in Elizabeth Captan who missed the ladies ultimate prize by one stroke behind the eventual winner, Yaa Konadu Safo Debrah who won with 75 net.

Empress of the event Mona Myers-Lamptey (Mona Captan), who had dominated the event for close to a decade, was a surprise third place winner, beating L. Amponsa-Mensah on count back both, scoring 77net apiece while Mary Kronborg, 80net, pushed Peace Akwei for the booby prize from a shattering 102net score.

David Arkutu took the men’s runner-up position, beating Maxwell O. Bonsu on count back both with 69net score, Eric Bonah 70net, E.K Bonsu, Gyimah Yaya and Mike Aggrey, all with 71net score each, veteran Ben Tetteh- 79net and Eric Johnson at the rear with a 99net score.

Club Captain and former treasurer Dr F.K. Oppong, in a prize presentation speech, thanked all participants and their guests with their presence, describing the event as a fitting tribute to their president, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, who had sponsored the tournament for the past decade during which he had also sponsored a number of needy but brilliant caddies to further their education.

The captain capped it by saying that the regular membership of club was dominated by the youth. He, on behalf of management and the entire committee, lauded the president for his continued assistance to the club.
