The pair of Abdul Majeed Amidan and Kamil Shanun won the lightweight double event, beating Yamin Asaase and Isaac Ampong, who gave the winners a good run for their money.

In the 4000m heavyweight double event, John Adams and Umar Ahmed emerged the winners, while Abdul Majeed Amidan won the 4000m lightweight single score.

The national championship, which held at Ada in the Greater Accra Region, was attended by officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and Ministry of Youth and Sports including the acting Director of the National Sports Authority, Alice Attipoe, who urged the athletes who would represent Ghana in the World Rowing Championship to go the extra mile to make the nation proud.

‘Indeed the newly-appointed Minister of Youth and Sports Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has vowed to strengthen sports disciplines like rowing; and it is my prayer that officials of Ghana Rowing would organize national championships every now and again.’

She promised to resource the association adequately to undertake its programmes in 2013 and subsequent years.
