LAGOS — Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government have been advised to pay attention to the plight of the Nigerian women.
This advice was given by Amb. Asabe Shehu Yar ‘Ádua, Founder/President Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua Foundation, to mark the International Women’s Day in line with the United Nations convention.
Yar’ Adua said: “Records indicate that about 20 million Nigerian women get pregnant every year. According to the figure, no fewer than 380 get impregnated every minute, and a corresponding death of 116 per day. It also showed that of the pregnancy figure, at least 190 are unplanned for, while 110 of such experience pregnancy-related complications.
“Therefore, experts explained that the total number of Nigerian women that get pregnant every day is 22,800, while about 547,200 pregnancies occur every month, bringing the total number of pregnancies at 19,972, 800
“But the government and its ministries, departments and agencies, as well as the corporate bodies need to pay greater attention to the plight of women.”
